Looks Like Rain

Partly cloudy with a high chance of neuroticism

I AM IN AWE
Gottfried Helnwein is incredible. His images are so disturbing, especially with his repeated use of imagery of innocence in perverse situations like wounded children or Donald Duck in dark alleys. Harry Parker III, the Director of Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco says that
"For Helnwein, the child is the symbol of innocence, but also of innocence betrayed. In today’s world, the...predatory influence of modern media assault the virtue of children....Many people feel that museums should be a refuge in which to experience quiet beauty divorced from the coarseness of the world. This notion sells short the purposes of art, the function of museums, and the intellectual curiosity of the public. The Child: Works by Gottfried Helnwein will inspire and enlighten many; it is also sure to upset some..."
I stumbled on his website from random browsing on Wikipedia, and wow he is amazing. Not only does he paint in hyperrealism, he also does photography and performance art.

Most of you have probably seen this painting by him:
Epiphany I - Helnwein was Viennese and the Holocaust is a pervading motif in his works. This one depicts an Austrian Nativity scene based on the Adoration of the Magi (aka SS soldiers) with the baby Jesus speculated to be a toddler version of Hiter himself.

Head of a Child - a gigantic 6 by 4 meter installation piece. I can't believe that someone painted that.
